Kachori Recipe

This is the month of Ramadan ul Mubarak. In this month, household women keep thinking and brainstorming about what to cook for iftar today. The choice has to be made within snacks and appetizers since main course meals are not preferred for iftar. While thinking about a snack for today's iftar menu, I spotted the idea to cook chana dal kachori to serve to my family for today's iftar. Kachori is a type of samosa and one of the mughlai foods which was prepared a Shahi Cook at the coronation ceremony of Mughal emperor Jahangir.

Gather maida flour, cumin, oil and water in a large platter and knead well together.

Boil split Bengal gram and grind with hands.

Mix split Bengal gram, salt, turmeric and crushed red chillies in a bowl.

Make small balls of kneaded flour.

Roll out flour balls.

Place split Benga gram upon the rolled piece of flour, fold and make a ball again.

Roll this ball again and place aside for 5 to 10 minutes.

Heat oil in a karahi pan and deep fry that rolled kachori. When it is golden brown, remove from pan. Prepare all kachori in the same manner.

Delicious Kachori is ready to enjoy!

Kachori Recipe in English

Kachori is a form of samosa. It was first prepared by royal chef at crown ceremony of Jahangir in Mughal era.


  • Maida Flour: 2 cups
  • White Cumin: 1 teaspoon
  • Oil: for frying
  • Split Bengal Gram: 1/2 cup
  • Salt: as required
  • Turmeric: 1/4 teaspoon
  • Crushed Red Chili: 1 teaspoon
  • Oil: 3 tablespoons
  • Water: as required


Mix white cumin, oil and salt with maida flour and knead well with the help of water (do not knead too hard).

Boil split Bengal gram and grind with hands; mix ground split Bengal gram, salt, turmeric and crushed red chillies in a bowl.

Form small balls with kneaded flour, flatten balls, fill with lentil mixture, fold and form balls again. Now flatten these balls again.

Prepare balls similarly with all the flour and set aside for 5 to 10 minutes.

Heat oil in a karahi pan and deep fry these balls on medium heat.

As kachori bloats up with golden brown in color, remove from pan. Fry all kachoris similarly.

Delicious kachori is ready to serve. Enjoy with green chatni and potato curry.
