Ingredients
1 kg moong dal (whole)
2 tblsps oil
1 cup water
1/4 tsp mustard seeds
¼ tsp asafetida
salt to taste
¼ tsp soda bicarbonate
¼ tsp turmeric
½ tsp red chilli powder
How to make Fangavela Mag (Sprouted Green Gram)
Method
Soak dal in water for 6 to 8 hours. Drain, and tie securely in a piece of cloth. Place in a vessel and cover tightly. Set aside for 8 to 10 hours, allowing the dal to sprout.
Heat oil in a vessel, throw in the mustard seed, and when they begin to crackle, put in the asafoetida and the sprouted moong. Add half a cup of water, salt, a pinch of soda bicarbonate, turmeric and chili powder. Allow to cook for half an hour, till tender. Serve hot.
