12 medium colocasia !caves, preferably black
½ cup tur (arhar). chana or whole moong dal
15 peanuts (roasted)
3" piece dried coconut
4 green chillies (ground)
1 piece ginger (ground)
1/2 cup gur
a lemon-sized ball of tamarind
½ tsp turmeric; salt to taste
2 tblsps oil
1/4 tsp mustard seeds
a pinch of asafoetida
How to make Colocasia Leaves with Sour Dal
METHOD:
Wash and cut the colocasia leaves. Wash dal and drain; slice the coconut and peanuts.
Cook the above in a pressure cooker with sufficient water. When cooked, add the ginger, green chilies, gur, tamarind, turmeric and salt
. Heat the oil, add mustard seeds and cumin, and when they begin to crackle add asafoetida and the cooked leaves and dal. Mix well and keep on the fire for 7 minutes, stirring constantly. This preparation goes well with rice and chapatis.
