Bask cumin, crushed coconut powder, Bengal split gram lentil (chana dal) and grind finely.

Clean beans with knife and cut into 2 inch pieces. Soak in water. Boil cut beans in water.

Fry onions to golden brown.

Add salt, red pepper, turmeric powder and coriander powder and roast for 2 minutes.

Add ground spice and roast well.

Add boiled beans.

When gravy is thick, add green chilies and place for dam.

Once oil appears, transfer in the serving dish and add green coriander. Delicious mongra phali/sohanjna ki phali is ready to enjoy.

Preparing Sohanjna ki Phali Dish

Ingredients:

  • Cumin Seeds: 1 tbsp
  • Crushed/Ground Coconut: 2 tbsp
  • Sohanjna/Mongra Beans: 1/2 kg
  • Onions: 1 finely chopped
  • Salt: as per taste
  • Red Pepper Powder: 1 tsp
  • Turmeric Powder: 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander Powder: 1 tsp
  • Oil: 1/2 cup
  • Water: 2 cups
  • Ground All Spice Powder: 1/2 tsp
  • Green Chilies: 2 to 3 pcs
  • Coriander Powder: 1 tsp
     

Method

  1. Bask crushed or ground coconut, Bengal gram lentil and oil on a tawa pan and then grind finely. Clean beans with knife and make slices of 2 to 2.5 inches and soak in water.
     
  2. Put 4 glasses of water in a pan and add some salt. Let it simmer. Once simmers, add sliced beans. Filtrate water as it simmers again (try to keep beans bit hard).
     
  3. Heat oil in pan.
     
  4. Add onions and fry until golden brown.
     
  5. As onions start becoming brown, add salt, red pepper, coriander powder and turmeric and roast for 2 minutes. Then add ground spice (which you ground in the beginning)
    and mix well.
     
  6. When it starts scenting, add boiled beans and roast for 2 minutes. Add 2 cup water and cook on low heat.
