I cup moong dal (whole)
4. cup curd
2 green chillies (ground)
a piece of ginger (ground)
salt and turmeric to taste
a lemon-sized ball of jaggery
1 tblsp oil
¼ tsp mustard seeds
a pinch of asafetida
How to make Khatta Mug (Sour Green Gram)


Wash and cook the dal with 3 cups of water in is pressure cooker for 8 to 10 minutes.

Add curd, ground chillies, ginger, salt, turmeric and jaggery. Boil for 5 minutes and stir.

Heat the oil, add the mustard seeds, and when they begin to crackle, add asafoetida. Pour over the dal, and serve hot with plain rice.
