Baking soda is chemically sodium bicarbonate (also called sodium hydrogen carbonate) which is a weak acid and of course used for foods containing acidic ingredients in them Baking powder is a mixture of sodium bicarbonate (baking powder) and an acid which can be used as a food material such as citric acid or tartaric acid (in Indo-Pak it is named TATRI). It is horrible that in Pakistan Oxalic acid is used instead of the food acids which has many health hazards
