Baking Powder:
Its includes an acid and a base, it is used in recipes that have other relatively neutral ingredients, like milk. It is commonly found in cake and muffin recipes.

Baking soda:
It is more common in recipes that have acidic ingredients that it can react to, such as yogurt, citrus juice, or buttermilk. Baking soda is used for foods like cookies and quick breads, such as banana bread.

User Opinion

Baking soda is chemically sodium bicarbonate (also called sodium hydrogen carbonate) which is a weak acid and of course used for foods containing acidic ingredients in them Baking powder is a mixture of sodium bicarbonate (baking powder) and an acid which can be used as a food material such as citric acid or tartaric acid (in Indo-Pak it is named TATRI). It is horrible that in Pakistan Oxalic acid is used instead of the food acids which has many health hazards
