Puffed rice(murmure) 300 grams/ 10 to 11 cups ..standard measuring cups
Sugar 360 grams/ 1& 1/2 cups
Honey (shehad) 5 table spoons
Butter (makhan) 250 grams (you can reduce the amount if you wish to)
METHOD:
Put rice puffs in a large bowl and set aside, line a large tray with tin foil and grease it on base and sides.
Put butter, sugar and honey in a heavy base sauce pan and cook on very low heat.
bring to boil and let it bubble till it becomes creamy.
Quickly pour over the rice puffs and mix quickly, you have to be fast as the sugar will start getting hard quickly.
Mix quickly and nicely so that all the rice puffs are coated well.
Don't take long in this process and spread them on the greased tray, take a rolling pin and roll pressing down.
When they are hard a bit put marks with a serrated knife to make it easy to cut the pieces later.
When totally cooled down, cut in pieces and enjoy.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
You have to work fast while mixing and rolling them in the tray so that they are well packed before the sugar gets hard otherwise the rice puffs will fall off while eating.
I tried this recipe without honey but it did not stick together.
I tried with jaggery but it was not successful too. so after trying 2-3 other ways i am sharing
this recipe with you which was a success for me in the first attempt.
Enjoy your homemade "MAROONDA" .
